and i love when it snows there. we are looking at snow across columbus circle, knox. that's one of the places we'll see less snow. we'll see more further west and north of the city. the reason we're getting the snow, the cold air is coming in, the storm is moving in and as they mix together we'll see more of the wrap-around effect from the storm system. washington, d.c., has been changing over from snow to rain at times, big fluffy flakes in washington, d.c., and baltimore around 10:00 or 11:00 this morning. but look at the rain/snow line, kind of stretches across central new jersey. we're also going to see this storm grow and intensify tonight. this is going to be a big snowmaker for coastal new england. in fact, you can see three to five inches for pennsylvania, upstate new york, parts of virginia, western maryland. as we zoom in, the winter weather advisory calls for 1 to 3 inches in new york city, upstate heavier amounts but boston, providence, areas of southeast connecticut, you could see 4 to 8 inches. and in some locations, don't be surprised if you get higher than 8 inch

to three inches from columbus and then into pittsburgh and new york city picking up a quick one to three inches through the afternoon when the snow arrives but then boston is where things get interesting as the storm rapidly strengthens off the coast. snow will intensify as we get through the day and then especially the coasts of new england, cape cod into boston we could pick up snow in the 3-6-inch range and then the storm continues to strengthen and drags in north and west temperatures only going to fall. as far as the temperatures right now quite cold across the midwest and thorn plains and we are at 18 currently minneapolis. for tomorrow here. and winter is certainly here and here to stay. that cold air will continue to filter in as we track on past new year's day and through the rest of next week. >> greta: jim thank you. i wonder if the weather will delay flights into washington for the fiscal cliff discussion this weekend on capitol hill. we'll see whether they make it back to washington the members of congress. straight ahead, disturbing new intelligence tonight. there is new in

canceled today. in columbus, ohio, passengers used the much needed time to catch up on rest. pittsburgh, pennsylvania, plows hit the ground but it wasn't enough to keep the heavy snow off the streets. greyhound buses were forced to cancel many of their routes. in hamburg, new york, commuters are frustrated. >> it's about a 25-minute drive usually. tonight it's an hour. >> reporter: and skiers are delighted. fema is urging people to update their emergency kits for cold weather including blankets, dpl gloves, first aid material, and a battery-powered radio. but in syracuse, new york, this is no match for people used to this weather. >> it's business as usual. i think a lot of people are on vacation for the holidays. but usually it's good travel until you get too many people on the road. that's usually the bigger problem, is the people trying to drive in it. >> reporter: and the roads could have been worse because it's a holiday week, a lot of people didn't go into the office. also, schools and universities are off making it that much easier for cleanup crews to do their job, candy. >> tha
